Type Locality and Naming

Along the village of Kocherbai, Muruntau Mountains, Central Kyzylkum. G.V. Balakin et al., 1972.

Synonym: Kocherbai Suite, Кочербайская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestones, dolomites, in the lower part bauxite-bearing argillaceous-clayey rocks. Thickness 200-290m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably or with local erosion overlies the limestones of the Aznek Fm

Upper contact

It is overlain with local erosion, but without visible unconformity by the Visean deposits of the Myutenbai Fm (Bukharin et al., 1984; 1990) or conformably by the Baymentau Fm.

Regional extent

Central Kyzylkum, Tamdytau, Aktau, Muruntau, Aryanstantau (Aristantau?) Mountains.

Fossils

Contains foraminifers - Parathurammina aff. suleimanovi Lip., Archaesphaera grandis Lip.; brachiopods - Palaeochoristites desinuatus Lip., P. čatkalikus Dik. of late Tournaisian age (Bukharin et al., 1984).
